PUTTING TOGETHER A TEAM
THE ONE QUESTION TO ASSEMBLING YOUR WEDDING AVENGERS
What’s the first word that coms to mind when I say “wedding planning”? Is it stress? Hate to tell you this, but it should be. Why? Because you’re about to embark on, what is ostensibly a full time job. Event planners, co-ordinators, the little magic pixies with clipboards and super human speed? They get paid to do what you’re about to do. And they have all the connections. They have the contacts, they know the people, the venues, the vendors, the pitfalls and all the other little planning gremlins to steer clear of.
You, however, are starting from zero. Less than zero.
And that’s okay. I’m here to get you through.
The trick to wedding planning is looking at it like Lego or a jigsaw puzzle. You have a final vision for your wedding, and your job is to find and put the right pieces into place. Here’s how you start.
It’s begins with a bit of introspection: what’s your vibe? Are you a traditional couple? Elegance and black tie? Or are you happy to yeet tradition out the window? Do you envision people getting tattoos at your reception (it happens more than you think)?
Once you’ve worked that out, you’ll hit a crucial step: pick two vendors. This is your foundation, your fortress of solitude. These two vendors are going to be the building blocks for what comes next. Make sure you love their work and that they’re *experienced*. And don’t compromise your vibe or vision when it comes to them. For example - are you a Nat Sproal girlie? Want a celebrant in your corner who’s also great in a bar fight? That’s block one. Are you a One More Song DJ couple? Want a Bali banger rave at your wedding? That’s block two.
Here’s the question that’s going to have you avoid spending the next six months scrolling through endless google reviews:
“Do you have anyone you recommend?”
It seems like such an obvious question to ask your chosen two vendors but you would be shocked at how many people neglect to ask. Each and every wedding vendor worth their salt is a living, breathing wedding directory. We have the keys to the kingdom that make your life easier. You need to leverage that for everything it’s worth. Your chosen vendors will know you as people, your vibe and your vision, and they will able to help you with pinpoint accuracy to bring that vision to life. Why? Because, selfishly, we also want to work with our friends, with individuals we trust, the people we gel with the most creatively. It makes for a better work experience and it makes for a better client experience. And from there you build. And before you know it, your wedding is organised and that tight feeling in your chest you have right now is nothing more than a memory.
Don’t be afraid to ask.
